January 26th, 2010FurnitureIf you have ever had the opportunity to breath in the fragrant smell of a cedar chest, you know that this wood is very aromatic. Cedar is an attractive, fine-grained and strong but lightweight wood which is also resilient against rot and insect damage. These reasons make cedar extremely suitable for use indoors as furniture and decor and outdoors as patio furniture and garden accents. There are some essential care, staining and painting tips that every cedar furniture owner should be aware of.
When properly treated, cedar furniture may last for decades in the harshest of environments. As the weather changes and humidity in the air fluctuates, it is natural for any type of wood to expand and contract throughout the year. When cedar furniture is purchased, it is common that some assembly will be needed. Once delivery has been taken, don’t wait to assemble the furniture! The wood might begin to expand, making assembly difficult, if not impossible. Once assembled, it’s a good idea to check for slackness in furniture every six months or so to see if any of the assemblies need to be tightened.

January 5th, 2010FurnitureA Drafting table is a great piece of furniture for people who are deeply invested in spending a lot of time bent over their work. If the architects were to choose between the computer generated drafting and the plain old pen and pencil drafting, most of them will probably choose the latter. The drafting table is the architect’s workplace; his/her shrine. Even with the recent advancements in technology which have totally eased up the process of drafting, many people still hold onto the conventional drafting table methods.
The drafted tables have been used for centuries to give people the comfort they need while they do their job. These tables are generally supported by steel structures. The steel table has the advantage over the oak wood table as it is more portable and gives the same strength. The top surface of the table consists of a layer of fiberboard that is tightly packed. This layer is then laminated by formica sheets to give it a glazed feel. Screws are used to attach the top surface to the metallic frame and if the table requires to be transported the screwed top surface can very easily be unscrewed.
